Today, I’m sharing a card made with Honey Bee Stamps. I just love this sweet mermaid and wanted to “sparkle her up” with sequins. My card features the following sets and sequin mix:
I started by stamping the background in a Memento Ink color in teal. I added distressed ink around the edges using a soft brush.
I also stamped and colored the mermaid using Copic Sketch markers. I fussy cut the design. I do not have dies to match this set so I did it the old-fashioned way with a scissors! Now it was time to attach the sequins. I used the Gina K. Connect Glue and my Ninja sequin picker to place and adhere the individual sequins. The sequin mix I used from Honey Bee includes some very tiny elements. I used those to create a tiara in the mermaid’s hair.
I create 5″ X 7″ cards and the background stamp is 6″ X 6″, leaving some white space on top and below. I could have added the border to the bottom, filling it up, but instead I thought it was more striking to leave it white and play it up as the floor of the ocean. I didn’t want to color it in a sand color so instead, I used C grays to create dimension in the sand, like small divots and peaks with shading. I added small pebbles with a darker gray, too. I liked the crisp white with the teal and left the background in white.
There’s a cute turtle in the Swimming By set that I also added for fun by the ocean floor. I think he is swimming by, too. The mermaid was placed on the background using dimensional foam to “pop” her a bit, whereas, the turtle was not.
Lastly, I added some distressed ink – the same ink I used on the background border in Mermaid Lagoon color – to a piece of white cardstock at the bottom. I used this piece to create the phrase by stamping the words “you are amazing” from the You Are Loved stamp set, in black and on top of the blue ink. I hand-cut out the phrase. The phrase was positioned on the front and “popped” up with Scotch Dimensional foam. A few sequins were added above and below the phrase for a little extra color. That’s it!
