Now for my card today…Frosty Ball Love Couple

In Madison, Wisconsin we have a New Year’s celebration at the State Capitol called the “Frosty Ball.” It’s a black tie event and is attended by many aspiring individuals from the area. My card was inspired by the Frosty Ball. Don’t you just love that name?! On the outside of this 5″ X 7″ card, it’s stark black with shimmery bubble-like circles of glitzy diamonds and a frosty center. In the center of the card front, I used the balloon garland image (printed four of these) from the TGF Birthday Boys digi set, I colored the center balloon garland in light pinks and aqua greens using Copic colors – G000, G00, RV10, and RV00 to make the very light pastel balloon background. I used a light touch on all of the balloon centers.

I die cut the word “Happy” using the Simon Says Stamp CZ Design Chunky Happy Wafer die. The letter outlines were die cut from silver glitter cardstock, the fills in white 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock and the shadow die in an aqua cardstock. The phrase “holiday cheer” is from a Simon Says Stamp set called, Ho Ho Ho. The diamonds around the circles were added using a Sakura Stardust Glitter Clear Sparkle gel pen. These pens work great! Iridescent sequins were added to the front for more fun and sparkle. They reflect pinks and aquas that match perfectly with the colors of the balloons. It looks so good together – a happy accident for sure!

When the card opens, you enter the Frosty Ball ballroom, complete with the dance floor with a center spotlight, balloons galore, glitzy sparkles and a mirror ball! The stunning Love Couple is dressed to the nines in black tie outfits. Ian is wearing black and white while Anya is wearing a very shimmery sparkle gray dress and headpiece. Anya’s earrings even sparkle beautifully! I used a Uni-bell Signo White Gel Pen to add some reflective sparkle. Since it’s a “Frosty Ball,” snowflake decorations are a must. I used the Simon Says Stamp Marie Snowflake , Lea Snowflake and Rina Snowflake. There is a white snowflake on the floor and several on the background wall. I added a vellum circle with “cheers!” from (Holiday Anya) (SSS)  heat embossed in black for the floor design. The mirror/disco ball is simply a circle punched out of glitter paper. I hand-drew the sectional lines to make it look like tiny mirrors on the mirror ball.

Copic Colors used for Ian and Anya

Hair and outfits: C9, C7, C5, C3, C1

Skin: E000, E00 E11, E21, E04

To make the pop-up feature, I used a pop-up box support, colored to match the dance floor. The box is 1/2″ tall, 1-1/2″ deep and 1-3/4″ wide. When the card is folded down, Ian and Anya lay flat inside. On the back wall are  more frosty bubbles, balloon garland and snowflakes in aqua and white. Balloons were added to the floor, too.

Above,  you can see the top-down view of the dance floor and pop-up support. To make the floor, I used a large circle stencil and applied gray ink to create the center circle spotlight. It’s like a snowflake is being projected onto the floor. I added dots on the floor for design using Copics in C9, C5, C3, and C1. The disco ball was connected to the back wall using Scrapbook Adhesives White Foam Squares so it stands out a bit. I hope this card finds you in a festive mood. Happy New Year (early)!
