What is “hygge?” What does it mean and why is it at Jane’s Doodles?

Hygge is all about being in the moment, feeling completely relaxed and centered, letting go of the hectic world around you, either alone or with loved ones. Hygge time in Scandinavia is enjoyed after a busy day of activities. No phones and computers allowed in those magical moments. — Ole Henriksen, quoted in Vogue

This new Hygee Time stamp set by Jane’s Doodles includes enriching books, warm candles, a blanket, cozy sweaters and socks, peaceful plants, a nice bottle and glass of wine, yarn with needles and more. These things bring peace, comfort, a sense of coziness and happiness to one. Ahhh….. It’s Hygge Time at Jane’s Doodles!

To make this 5″ X 7″ card, I trimmed a piece of warm gray cardstock to 4-1/4″ wide X 5-1/2″ tall. I splattered paint on the cardstock using Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors (48). I stamped all nine images from the Hygge Time set and colored them using aquas, light yellow-oranges, greens and pinks. The colors are all slightly muted to go with each other. I used the following Copics:

  • Blue-Greens: BG23, BG11, Bg10
  • Yellow-Oranges: YR31, YR30, YR24, YR21
  • Pinks: E70, R83, R22, R00
  • Warm Grays: W3, W1, W0 W00
  • Greens: YG67, YG63, YG61, YG03

Each image was fussy cut out, in preparation for the next step.

I punched out nine 1″ white circles from 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock. I attached them to the warm gray cardstock in a 3 X 3 pattern. Next, I added the images over the circles and added black faux stitching around each circle, as if the circles were sewn to the cardstock. The gray cardstock was attached to a 5″ X 7″ card base made from 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock. Lastly, I stamped the phrase from the set to complete this card. It’s time for peace and comfort. This would be a great card to send someone needing a little peace and comfort right now. Imagine a cozy pair of socks or a nice book to go with a card like this.
