There’s one week left to participate in the Newton’s Nook Designs’ milestone, 100th Inky Paws Challenge. This is a fun one because you get to choose any previous challenge to use and play along. You have until Friday, June 28 to link your card at InkyPawsChallenge.com to participate. For my card today, I’m using Challenge #33, an ombré challenge.

To make this card, I really wanted to change up where the ombre effect was on the card front. Most would create an ombre background, but instead I created it on the foreground images instead. I started by watercoloring some extra watercolor paper with three colors blue, yellow and pink – each one on a separate piece – and creating and dark to light look. Next I stamped in black the kite design from Delightful Doxies stamp set on all three fully-dried pieces of watercolor. These kites are quick to cut out using a scissors so it was a natural choice to use since this image would be repeated so many times!

Next, I created a cloud background using a scratch piece of paper (with soft circles cut out at the top) and Ranger Distressed Inks. I sponged on the color to create the clouds. I added a phrase to the bottom right corner. I adhered the kites to the front carefully placing the most colorful ones at the bottom and the lightest ones at the top. I added cushion to a few of the kites to make them pop off and create dimension. For the last step, I used a light gray fine marker to create fun, curvy kite strings. That wraps up this card!
