Nice Couple Coffee Shop Date

Today, I’m sharing a front flap card for the September release blog hop. It features the Nice Couple in a coffee shop. I used the Nice Couple, Anya and Ian along with many digi elements from the Bakery Cafe digi stamp set to create this scene.
From the side, you can see how this card is structured. It’s a 5″ X 7″ landscape-oriented card with a 2″ tall front flap (floor) hinged on the side that supports the couple. Notice the two floors – wood on the inside, tile on the outside. Why? I wanted the characters to really stand out with a lighter floor.
Why the flap?
  1. The front flap is sized perfectly to fit a gift card to your favorite coffee shop! I just used a glue dot to keep the card in place, but you could easily add side tabs or a slit to hold it in place, too.
  2. It allows a super cute scene background to be shown with no foreground covering it up. I love the bakery and wanted to really show it off.
When the flap is open, you can fully see the coffee shop. I used a wood floor here. I like the warmth of the floor for a coffee shop.  I hand drew the floor, but used digis for the counter, cooler, register and food items. I used a ruler to add the vertical lines on the wall. It reminds me of paneling or vertical boards on the walls. I guess it could be striped wallpaper, too. 🙂
I created the menu board using the chalkboard digi, an element from the Bakery Cafe digi set. I filled it in with a dark gray color, added white lettering in Photoshop using a letter board type font and then used a black marker to draw the lines between the letters. I love how this turned out. I did the same with the “daily special” poster, filling it in with a dark gray and using a chalkboard letter font for the words in white. You can do this in Microsoft word or by hand, too. By hand, color in the board in a dark color and then write on it using a white gel pen. Easy!
When the flap is closed, the couple appears and they are standing on a black / white checkered floor. You may be wondering  why I chose to have two different floors. Well, I just thought the characters showed up better on a lighter floor v. on the wood floor. However, I thought a wood floor for a coffee shop would be so darn cute and warm feeling. I hand drew the checkered tile floor using a fine-tip black marker and ruler and colored it in using cool shades of gray.
I added coffee cups in the hands of Anya and Ian. I simply cut a slit to the hands and sized and printed digi cups, cut them out  and added them to the characters. The hands of each image were positioned nicely to add a cup to them.
When the card is flipped open, the inside includes the cute Coffee Friend phrase. I also added two digi cups to the phrase to spice it up a bit. A few drops of coffee were added as well.  I think this is a fun card to give to any coffee loving friend!
