Happy fall, y’all! One week ago I shared a card using the new Honey Bee Stamps House Builder die set for a winter home for the holidays scene. For those who thought I may have jumped ahead a bit in the year, I’m back today with a scene suitable for the fall season. Welcome to Granny Smith’s General Store!

I used the following Honey Bee Stamps products to make this 5″ X 7″ card:

(Before you get concerned, please read:  If you are interested in making a card like the general store, please know that not all of the sets I used/nor details in this card are necessary to accomplish this look. I happen to own these sets so I pulled from what I already owned and added to the house builder die set to complete this card. There are countless ways to make this card charming and interesting. Just add your own details! :))

To make this card, I started by die cutting the house and roof. I wanted it to look country and vintage so I created faux logs for the house walls by coloring the front like natural wood logs in various shades of browns and hand cutting the edges of the sides in a scallop pattern to show the log design. I cut a simple rectangle in black and one slightly smaller in a warm grey for the front window. I also used a die from the House builder set for the front door and and cut out the top panel to create a larger square window to look more like an old-fashioned commercial door. Warm gray cardstock was added behind it for the window. I colored the roof (cut from the shingled roof die in the Halloween add-on set) in various shades of cool and warm Copic grays such as W9, W5, W3, C9, C4, C1 and some brown (E) shades like E47, E57 E44, etc. Shading was added to create a more dimensional look like a shingled roof would be. I did not spend a lot of time on the roof. I just wanted it to have a varied shingle appearance. A front cement stoop was die cut, shaded and placed in front of the storefront door, too.  

This general store has lots of “good stuff inside” like fresh mouth-watering apples and ripe pumpkins. The Little Pickup stamp set includes lots of cute fall items to add to the truck bed. These items also happen to fit perfectly in this store scene, too! The piles of apples in the front window, the barrels and the pumpkins outside the door were stamped, colored, die cut and added to the front of the store. 

The store signs were made by stamping and cutting out words from the One of a Kind stamp set. They were adhered to the window and door. The store’s roof sign was handmade. If you make a store, you can tailor its name to whatever you like. I used “Granny Smith” because I wanted to highlight the apples that were for sale inside. I used the two boards from the Haunted house to “mount” the sign to the roof.  By the way, did you know that Granny Smith apples do come in red, too?! I checked before naming my store since I had red apples as the logo.  I used those cute little apple clay bits from Honey Bee to make the apple art on the faux wood sign. I love how that turned out. 

To make the background, I colored in a very light blue sky and added the haunted house bare trees in black to both sides of the store. I  hand-colored in the autumn trees in the background and added a gravel drive at the base of the card front for the tree and store to “rest” on. Some falling leaves were added to the sky and roof. 

To create the vintage blue truck, I die cut the pieces from the Little Pickup Paper Piecing die set. I added rust to the truck and shading to make it more vintage. 🙂 Foam was added under the fenders to make them dimensional. Pumpkins from the Little Pickup stamp set were stamped, colored and die cut and added to the pickup bed. 

You can see the dimension of the truck from the side. The truck was placed in front of the general store, on the gravel drive. The entire card front was adhered to the card base to finish the card. This is one of those cards that is a labor of love. I kept finding things I wanted to add to it like the pennant banner string in the window, apples nestled by pumpkins on the displays, etc. What’s really fun is that you can personalize it in so many ways for the recipient, too!
