Everyone loves the Elf on the Shelf so why not capture the idea on a tag? My kids have so many memories of their favorite elves in the house. They would find them on the shelf, tucked in a tree, above a cabinet… Each night they would leave and report to Santa at the North Pole, In the morning, they would return and be somewhere new in the house. The kids would have to find where they were watching them from each day. It was magical to watch them. My son always talked to the elf and told him not to go in the bathroom! A boy needs his privacy… 🙂
I wanted to capture that memory in a gift tag to use this holiday. Christmas is all about traditions and family memories. Our 18-year old twins will get a kick out of these tags. I created this quick tag using these products by Honey Bee Stamps:
Santa’s Village stamp and die sets (for the elves and gifts)
Toy Store Add-on die set (for the layered tree)
Country Christmas Wreath stamp and die sets (for the stockings)
Holiday Cheer 6″X6″ Paper Pad or Farmhouse Check Background Stamp
I used the largest tag in the Hero Arts Nesting Tag Die set and die cut it from 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock and a checked piece of pattern paper from the Holiday Cheer 6″X6″ Paper Pad. The two were layered together. You could also simply stamp the Farmhouse Check Background design for the background, too. I love this background stamp! It’s simple and interesting all in one. I created two tags – one for each child – and since I ran out of the pattern paper, I used the stamp instead. Both look great!
Next, I created the dimensional shelf using some tan cardstock. I added lines for wood grain to it for the appearance of wood. To create the shelf, I cut my cardstock 2″ wide (width of final shelf) X 2-1/2″ long to make the 2″ wide by 1/2″ thick shelf. Simply score every 1/2″ to make the four sides, then form into a square and adhere the two overlapping edges together using 1/4″ double-sided Scor-Tape Crafting Tape. Attach the shelf to the tag background using the same tape. I added presents to the shelf. For the present that is sitting on the shelf, I layered 3mm craft foam in white to make the “box” look dimensional from the front view. The elf was stamped, die cut, and folded before adhering to the shelf.
The layered tree, girl elf, presents and stocking were added to complete the look, below the shelf. This is a quick and easy tag that adds dimension and maybe a favorite childhood memory to a gift. My 18-year old twins will find it funny because they were sort of creeped out by their moving elves. They knew their boy and girl elves were always watching them during the day to make sure they were good. Otherwise….Santa will know!
