Before we headed out for Spring Break, I got a mani/pedi at our local salon. With so many colors to choose from, it was hard to pick one. I ended up getting OPI Cajun Shrimp, my “go-to” color for Spring. When it came to making this card, I decided to use three colors that I saw being used at the salon. The woman next to me was getting a teal color for her pedicure and a raspberry color for her hands. I like to keep my mani and pedi the same color, but she picked two beautiful colors. On the other side of me, a woman was getting a pedi in a beautiful coral tone. I used all three of these colors as my inspiration for this card.
I’m using Honey Bee Stamps products today for my Polished and Tough As Nails card.
To make this card, I stamped the background on white cardstock with black ink leaving both sides white. I like the make 5″ X 7″ cards (more like a commercial card) and the background stamp is 6″ X 6″ so it does not completely cover a 5″ X 7″ card front. However, this stamp comes with an accompanying border stamp that could fill this space easily. I happen to like the white on the edges so I left mine this way.
Next, I stamped and fussy cut three bottles of nail polish. I have the dies for this set, but today I did not want any border to my bottles so I quickly cut around them. I wanted these bottles to be open and spilling out so instead of cutting out the bottle top, I cut a smaller rectangle to create the “opening.” This is simple and easy to do with a black marker. I colored in the space using black and C tones (Sketch Markers) to create the look of an open bottle of nail polish.
I hand cut out three “blobs” to resemble spilled polish and colored them, allowing some white space for highlights and shandows around the edges to give some dimension. I did the same around each of the bottle openings once I positioned my bottles on their respective “spill” color. After playing around with these organic-shaped spills and bottles, I adhered everything to the background.
I used the phrase, “You are tough as nails” from the polish set and embossed it in white on black cardstock to make it pop from the background design of the card. To finish it off, I added some additional “spill” marks around the bottles for more movement and color.
Thanks for visiting my polished friends!
