No major thinking involved… just a sketch and your creative juices needed. It’s a new Inky Paws Challenge sponsored by Newton’s Nook Designs. Come play along and you could be the next randomly drawn winner! It’s challenge #105 and it is a sketch challenge. Use any Newton’s Nook products to be eligible to win or play along with other brands for fun. We’d love to have you join us! Here’s my first card for the challenge.
I’m using the Dainty Daisies stamp and coordinating die sets and the little birdie from the stamp set, Raccoon Rascals for this card. To make this card, I used an extra piece of watercolor paper on hand and color washed it in blue with some added splatters for the window sky. I added the gray window frame. My birdie was stamped on an extra piece of cardstock and die cut and adhered to the window ledge. For the background, I used the smaller stamp from the Dainty Daisies set and just stamped teal on teal to create the background for the window.
The daisies were stamped, colored and die cut using the die. This makes the process so much quicker. I would highly recommend getting the die for the daisies. The best part is the daisy stamp is only $7.99 so you can afford the dies to match. 🙂 I used two full daisy images to fill in the window box. One of the images was cut in pieces to fill in daisies where needed. I used a combinations of YR and E colors to color the daisies and my all-time favorite leafy green colors – YG67, YG21 and YG03 with a little YG95 and 97 for a more fall, earthy look for the leaves. Black and white dots were added to the flower centers for more depth in the flower detail.
Challenge Sketch shown to the left.
For the window box, I used some gold colored cardstock and added woodgrain to the outside using my Copic C1 marker and sponged a darker gold color distressed ink on the sides for shadowing. The woodgrain is subtle, but if you paint wood, your grain showing through is very subtle. If you are not comfortable creating your own woodgraining, you could also sponge it using the Newton’s Nook Woodgrain stencil, too. I didn’t use it because I don’t own it. It’s a bit larger scale, but could definitely work, too. I added a “wood” trim piece to the box top with foam cushion to make it dimensional and for the daisies to tuck inside, as if they are growing out of the window box.
The phrase was stamped on the window box front before the card was assembled. A checkered black and white gingham ribbon was added to create more contrast in the scene and to connect to the black phrase print, too. The ribbon also fits with the ribbon on the sketch for an added bonus! This completes my card for today.
Thanks for stopping by today. Now it’s your turn to create a card or project for the IPC #105. Projects must be linked up by Friday, Sep. 6, 2019 to be eligible to win.
I truly hope your day is as special as you are! Have a great week. 🙂
