It’s a season of fun and cuteness at the Paperie Ink headquarters. With five new sets to create the most adorable summer cards, who needs the real sun…we all do! I combined these cards and added some sun for my SEA-SUN of fun card. I used the new set, Seasun of Fun to make this slimline, pop-up card measuring 8-1/2″ wide X 3-1/2″ tall.

To make the card and front panel, I use 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock for the card base because it is not too heavy to layer. (cut at 7″ X 8-1/2″ and score down the middle at 3-1/2″ to make the card base). I stamped the umbrellas and phrase on the card front using black ink. I also stamped and heat embossed in white, five umbrellas on bright cardstock colors.

I fussy cut the umbrellas out (cutting off the handles), adhered to the front over the stamped images, popping up the aqua and orange umbrellas.

I stamped, colored and fussy cut my sweet pig images. I also hand-drew the beach towel, sandcastle and the tall grassy patch. Each one of these drawn items were added to a scene with the pigs. By doing this, I have more area in the back to attach the pop-up supports.

Next, I created my inside panel backdrops.  I cut two more Solar White pieces for the inside panels measuring 8-1/2″ X 3-1/2″. By using the panels, I can hide the Copic color bleeding on the back side. A soft lake scene was colored on the inside top panel. I stamped and added the sun in the sky, too. A sandy / grassy landscape was colored on the bottom inside panel, covering 2/3 of the panel and leaving white space for my phrase. I also stamped some starfish, shells and the pail on the sand. I stamped the phrase, “Hello Sunshine” from the stamp set of the same name in the lower right corner, in the white space. Both panels were adhered to the inside of the card base.

Now it’s time to create the pop-up vignette scenes. to make them pop-up, you need supports that are adhered to the back panel (so they raise when the card is opened) and the bottom panel. I created three box shaped supports for my images. To make them, I cut 1/2″ wide stripes of cardstock and scored at the following measurements:

Make two 1″ supports: Score at 1″, 1.5″ 2.5″ 3″

Make one 1-1/2″ support: Score at 1-1/2″, 2″3-1/2″ 4″

The supports are glued to the back of the pig vignettes at the bottom back of them, then adhered to the back and bottom scene panels. I used extra-strength rolled strip adhesive to attach them. Once in place, I slipped in the beach towel under the umbrella piggy and adhered in place to finish this summer day at the lake card! Would you like a fun day in the sun with these cuties?!
