Yay! It’s Release Day at Paperie Ink and there are five new sets in the May release. Today, I’m featuring one of the new sets called, Don’t Worry Be Happy. This set is filled with adorable animals in fun pool floaties. There’s also some fun drinks, a beach ball, and three phrases – all perfect for a hot summer day! You can find this set and all of the new products from the release using this link here. Now for the feature card…

Don’t Worry Be Happy Top-Fold Slimline Card

I tried something new with my card today. This is a slimline card with a top fold. The dimensions of my card are 3-1/2″ wide X 8-1/2″ tall folded, which means when open, the card is a whopping 17″ long! All the “drama” of this card is on the inside.

To create the top fold, slimline card, the top front panel was cut 3-1/2″ wide X 11″ and scored at 8-1/2″ to create the tab that will later be “sandwiched” in between the inside and outside back panels measuring 3-1/2″ X 8-1/2″ each. The tab becomes the “hinge” to connect the card at the fold.  A card front panel is also cut  to adhere to the front to cover any Copic bleeding from the inside panel coloring. In other words, I’ve created a two layer front and back panel, with the inside front layer having the connected “hinge” portion.

Where this card really, gets fun is inside. I created this long, roaming 8-1/2″ lazy river for these sweet floating animals to have fun on. To create it, I hand drew the lazy river to my liking, cut it out and threw it away. (You could save this piece for another project, perhaps a road!) The bank pieces were kept and colored in shades of greens with large gray stones added to the terrain. The inside, upper panel (the one with the additional hinged piece) was colored with Copics in a wavy line motion to create movement in the water. By coloring this first before attaching the green banks, you can be free with your wavy line motion not have to worry about the edges. 🙂  I attached the outer bank pieces to the inside of the card, over the river,  and colored in the bank edges in darker warm gray shades (Copic colors: W5 W7, W9) to define and add dimension to them. This helps make the river look lower than the grassy borders. Next the characters were stamped, colored and cut out. I added the animals to the river, fitting each one’s floaty in the channel.

A wave pool was added to the inside bottom panel as well as a rocky edge. I simply hand drew the rocks using shades of C and W Copic colors. The alligator, ball and drink from the set were also placed in the pool of water. I stamped one of the phrases from the set, at the bottom.

Now for the card front panel… I kept the outside of this card more simple. I’ll let the inside get all the applause. 🙂 I used the umbrella and sun from another new set called, Seasun of Fun to add to the monkey and drink. Leftover strips of cardstock were added to the bottom and white stitching accents were drawn on, too. The umbrella was popped up with dimensional foam tabs for more depth. This card fits in a business-sized envelope. I purchased a bunch of envelope in fun colors for slimline from Jam Paper. You can see the yellow and orange envelopes in my photo. I hope you enjoyed this card. Leave and comment with any questions or thoughts. I’d love to hear from you!
