Yep, that is exactly what I did. I took the Jane’s Doodles dog house from the set, Dogs and just added a few extra lines to make these beach huts! This set is on sale right now for a very low price of $5.60, too! I am also using the Road Trip stamp set for the two birds in the foreground and Summer Icons stamp set for the phrase and umbrella.

To make this 5″ X 7″ card, I started with 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock for the card base and the card front panel. I color the design on the panel and then attach it to the card base to conceal my coloring bleed. On the card front panel, I hand drew the sandy shore, horizon and sky using Copic markers in E50-E53 and E42 and E43 shades. I added black and white specks for seashells using a black fine-tip marker and a Uni-bell Signo White Gel Pen. The water is BG11, BG23 and BG49. The sky was colored using B00, BG000.

I stamped and simply extended the side lines of the dog houses to make them tall on a separate sheet. You could simply stamp these right on the card front panel and then add the background. I did not plan for that so I stamped the houses, added the length to them using a similar sized black marker tip width, added flags to the top, colored them in and then fussy cut each hut out. They were attached in a row. I had fun with these. You can color and change them to add interest. The dog house opening can be a window, doors, opening… you decide! I also added extra “wood” to the new addition first floors. You could also put these up on stilts, add side stairs, etc., for more fun beach looks, too.

The birds and umbrella were stamped, fussy cut and added at the end. I also had some small die cuts for the oars and anchor from Spellbinders Build A Summer Birdhouse die set that I added, too. If I had planned ahead, I would have simply stamped and colored the birds before adding the sandy background. I typically create as I go, so I am never sure what I will be adding till I am at that point of the process. Note: If I were to make this card again, I’d stamp everything directly on the card front panel to avoid fussy cutting.  I also stamped the “Hello Summer” phrase from the Summer Icons stamp set to finish the card.
