How to make this card and quilt
To make this 5″ X 7″ card, I started by creating “gingham fabrics” using the Stripes Stencil and Distress Oxide Inks. I used Salvaged Patina, Worn Lipstick, Bundled Sage and Scattered Straw. After I stenciled the patterns, crossing over the stripes perpendicularly to create checked designs, I die cut them into stitched squares and arranged them diagonally, to look like a sewn baby quilt. I am using an double stitched nested square set from My Favorite things. You could also just create squares with your cutter and draw in quilting stitches.
I added “sheets” to the crib by splattering watercolors onto ivory-colored Neenah 80lb cardstock. I used some of this splattered cardstock to create a few quilt squares, too. I added a fresh, scalloped white edge to the folded down top sheet. I used a Stampin’ Up! punch to create the scallop edge. Inside the sheets, I added sweet baby, Seamus, (a digital stamp). This cute sheep that can be sized to fit this crib card which was perfect for this project! Pennants were stamped, colored and added to the top of the card.
Lastly, I added two hand-sewn “appliques” – a giraffe and elephant – from the Oh, Baby stamp set. I added white faux stitching around the animals to make them look more like appliques on the quilt corner. I colored the animals using Copics in: E44, E43, E42, Yr31, YR30, W4, W3, W1, and R00. I also stamped the phrases from the set on the front to finish the card.
