WHO likes the new owl set by Paperie Ink? I do! Woohoo! I’m using the new set called, Owl About Me. I used five of the twelve owls in this adorable set for this 5″ X 7″ (A7-sized) card. I paired the cute birds with a few other supplies including the Moonlit Town Stand Alone Die Set by Trinity Stamps to create the peek-through window. The phrases are from a stamp set by My Favorite Things (MFT Stamps) called, Warm and Feathered Hugs illustrated by Stacey Yacula. I think the combination works so well together. 🙂
To make this card, I used black and white cardstock for the city line die cuts. I applied Seedless Preserves and Picked Raspberry Distressed Oxide inks to the 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock piece, attached to the front bottom. I used Dr. Ph Marten’s Bleed Proof white ink for the white splatters on the black. I also stamped the phrase on the front.
The owls were colored using Copic Sketch Markers in C5, C3 and C1. I also used RV93, RV91 and RV02 for the owls’ breasts and YR68 for the beaks. I added fun eyelashes using a Sakura Classic White Gelly Roll white pen in size 10.
On the inside panel, I applied a violet watercolor wash using Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors (48) on Canson XL Bristol Smooth watercolor paper. I also splattered fuchsia watercolor over the violet while it was still wet and after it was dry. This provides some soft, subtle and more intense drops of color. White ink was splattered over the color.
Once the paint was dry. I stamped the verse (making sure it would be hidden when the front cover is closed) and attached the interior panel to my card base. I folded the card and from the front, I hand drew the power lines for the owls to perch on using a fine tip black marker (.1 point size). I attached the owls to complete the card. The flying owl is adhered to the black cardstock front panel at the top.
