There is nothing prettier than a blossoming tree in the spring. I wanted this card to convey the fresh feeling of a new spring season. Today it was 72 degrees and I felt like jumping for joy. Spring is here! For this card I used Simon Says Stamp Blossoming stamp set, a perfect tree for spring! It’s part of the Simon Says Stamp Fresh Bloom spring collection. This is a gorgeous set. The tree with its beautiful phrases and endearing tree swing make it an exceptional stamp set.
To make this card, I embossed the tree image with white embossing powder on black cardstock. I then colored in the tree using my Caran D’ache Luminance Colored Pencil Set. This is the first time I’ve used these pencils and I really liked them. I primarily used the white pencil for shading the tree trunk and then added some yellow and orange for some of the flowers, too. I also used a green pencil to add some color around the branches as well.
I used Canson XL watercolor paper for the background and watercolored it with shades of yellow, aqua and green. I add splatters of black and white paint over the top of the wash for more texture and interest. A small bird was added towards the top and the sentiments were stamped in black ink. I used a sympathy sentiment because lately I’ve been in need of sympathy cards. This set has other fabulous sentiments beyond sympathy. The entire tree was cut out and “popped” up using dimensional foam to make it really stand out. This card is a 5″ X 7″ card allowing more space around the tree for the background to show. I love that!
