Here’s a fun A7-sized card I made for my son who left for college (his freshman year) at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. Minnesota is North of us and while the state doesn’t have mountains, I wanted this card to feel like an adventure so I added some mountains! (Yes, You can do that when you make your own cards!)
I added the mountains by free-hand using Copics in cool grays. You want to add a little blue violet color, too! The trees are from the stamp set, Happy Camper by Jane’s Doodles and the busload of adventurists is from Road Trip. I stamped and colored all the elements on a separate piece of Neenah 80lb solar white cardstock. I fussy cut them out and attached them together using a think white strip behind the towering luggage. I added foam tabs behind it. This van ensemble will pop off the background using the tabs. I like my focal point to stand out!
I always add rust to this vintage van because it gives it more character and frankly, it is more realistic! I used BG colors to color the van and the rust are yellow-oranges. I love the rust. When a vehicle is older, the white is seldom white anymore. I used some earthy creams in the E Copic line for the hood of the van. I added all the accessories on top of the van for fun. My plant was getting lost with the similar color trees in the background so I added more luggage behind the plant to make it stand out.
I used yellow-green for those trees. I purposely did not totally blend the colors of YG65, YG63 and YG03. I wanted them to look a little more fun – less real here. Again, this card measures 5″ X 7″ and fits inside an A7 envelope for mailing.
