I am the youngest in my family so sarcastic birthday cards, poking fun at my siblings’ ages always gets a laugh or two. They all have tough skin and take it well from their little sister. I used stamps from Honey Bee Stamps for these featured cards. They are so lit that they may start on fire. I’d like to say my cards are smokin’ hot! Hee hee. 

Here’s the sets I used to make these coordinating duos. These are some of my favorite go-to stamp sets because of their fun phrases and images! 

The uniqueness of these cards is the “smoke” effect achieved on the card fronts. For the cupcake card, I created the smoke using a Ranger Mini Ink Blending Tool with Delicata ink in Shimmer White also available at Honey Bee Stamps. This is a pigment ink and will show up on black cardstock. It even has a very subtle glimmer to it.  It’s easy to use, but let it dry before handling. To create the words in the smoke, you could mask the phrase first and then apply the ink, but I found it simpler to just heat emboss over the smoke using Nuvo Jet Black embossing powder.  I think it’s just easier and cleaner that way v. creating an intricate mask. I added some additional white Signo Uni-ball Gel pen swirls to create movement in the smoke. The same was done for the piece of cake card only this time I used Ranger Distressed ink in Black Soot to create the black smoke on the white cardstock. I used the Ranger Distressed Ink, but I think the Distressed Oxide Black Soot ink would work equally as well, if not better. 

The rest of the card was stamped and colored using Copics in colors such as Y19, YR68, R29, B02, V04 and YG03. I love the bright colors! For the icing, I used YR30 and YR31. The cupcake is in a mix of E30s with a little E55. The chocolate cake is a mix of Es such as Cocoa and a few others. I just played around with this until I got what looked like a chocolate cake. I also added some Unicorn Rhinestones to the cake card at the bottom for a little sparkle. They don’t show up well on the black, but I do like the whimsical nature. The dots on the top of the card were punched out using a hand paper punch in various colors of cardstock. Deflated balloons (love this image) and party hats from Blah Bunny adorn the bottom of each sweet treat. 

My cards are 5″ X 7″ so plan ahead if you are making a different size card to make sure everything will fit on your front. Thanks for visiting! So much heart goes into these fun cards! Bobbi
