Do you have a child who loves to read (maybe needs a book or chapter limit before bedtime) or doesn’t enjoy reading (needs a reminder on how many books or chapters to read in a week). Marci has a book/chapter counter ready for any reader. I used the latest November 2019 Club Kit from La-La Land Crafts to make this slim-line card. I combined the club kit with some new papers in the store called Blue Christmas Paper Pack. The pattern paper is important for this counter-card design because it includes the numbers for the counter.
I started by stamping coloring and die cutting Marci and friends from the Club Kit. I used Copics in the following colors to color the images.
Coloring Details:
Hair: 100, N5, N3, N1
Skin: E04, E13, E11, E00
Lip & Cheek: RV10, RV95
Top: RV99, RV95, R39
Sock: RV95, BV00, RV10
Leggings: C5, C3, C1
Headband: RV99, RV93, RV91, B97, B95, B91, BV00
Glasses: C5, C3
Books: B99, B39, B18
Shadows: W4
I used one of the dies from the kit to make the stool that Marci is sitting on. I used the bookshelf die for the book that the hippo is sitting on. The counter “bead” was die cut from one of the book topper dies. The same die was used for the ribbon insert reinforcements at the top and bottom of the card.
To create this slim-line card, I started with a 7″ X 8.5″ piece of white cardstock for the base of this 3.5″ wide X 8.5″ tall card. Next, I cut another piece of cardstock for the card front (3.5″ X 8.5″) and adhered the gingham pattern paper to the top and the spotted pattern to the bottom portion of the card. I added ribbon slots at the top and bottom of the card front for the ribbon to thread through. I attached the plum-colored counter “bead” to the ribbon before adhering the ribbon raw edges in place on the back side of the front. The card front was adhered to the card base (which completely covers up the ribbon ends that are secured to the back of the card front.)
I hand cut the numbers out of the pattern paper and adhered them to both sides of the ribbon. Marci and the animals and the stamped phrase were secured in place to finish the card. The plum counter moves up and down the ribbon to mark the correct number.
Now your reader is ready to count away the books and chapters all night or week long… depending on what kind of reader he/she is! Grandmas…this is a great card idea for your reader offspring!
To get these exclusive stamps and dies, you must be part of the La-La Land Crafts Club Kit. They are only available to kit members. You can choose between stamps only, dies only, or stamp and dies together. Each option has a different monthly price, but the best value is getting both the stamps and dies together. The value of this kit is $88.99 and you can purchase it for $39.99, saving your $49.00 for the whole bundle. Plus, creating is more fun that way, too! Sign up by November 20 and get this kit sent directly to your home! After the 20th, this kit will no longer be available.
