I’m using 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock for the card base and card front panels, and elements.

To make this 5″ X 7″ card, I stamped, colored and cut the cute penguin, sun hat, umbrella, palm tree, fish and coconut drink using the Pengu-tastic Holiday stamp set and coordinating dies.  I used Copics to color them. I wanted to create an island scene, so I hand drew an island (a simple, imperfect half circle) using a black fine-tip black marker and added greenery and a sand base around the tree. For fun, I added a couple green tropical leaves cut using the dies from the Summer Bliss Die set. I adhered all the elements to the island. I used foam dots to attach the penguin to make him stand out a bit more. Here’s a list of the Copic Marker colors I used for the elements:

  • Island: E44, E43, E42, W2, W1
  • Palm Tree: YG67, YG23, YG17, YG03, E49, E57, E44, 100
  • Island Grasses: YG67, YG23, YG03
  • Umbrella: Y19, Y08, R29, R17, R14, YR07, YR68, B05, B02, RV09, RV55
  • Penguin: 100, C9, C7, C5, C3, YR07, YR68
  • Drink: E55, Y19, E42, RV09
  • Hat: YR68, Y19, YG03
  • White Gelly Roll Pen for highlight marks

Using the Summer Bliss set, I cut the “Summer” scripted word from white and black cardstock and layered them, offsetting the black one a bit for a shadow effect. To make the background, I blended Ranger Distress Oxide Ink on a piece of cardstock, cut 4-1/4″ wide X 3-1/2″ tall. I used Mermaid Lagoon and Squeezed Lemonade, blending them together in the middle. I splattered water over the ink and lifted drops of ink for the splotchy look.

For the water/ocean around the island, I added Distress Oxide Ink in Tumbled Glass and Broken China in a random pattern allowing white to show through on a 4-1/4″ wide X 2-1/2″ long piece of white cardstock. I ran the inked cardstock through my die cutting machine, using Mermaid’s Melody Cover Die. The die adds a wave pattern for a fun water effect. The two background pieces were pieced together with a slight overlay and the island layered on top. I also added the “summer” word and stamped a phrase from the Sunkissed Memories stamp set to the bottom to finish the card.
